Josephine Ancelle to release New EP “Ends With Always” on December 3rd, 2010
New York-based Joséphine Ancelle takes an enormous leap forward in her musical journey with the highly-anticipated release of her new EP Ends With Always. The 25 year-old French import offers a novel take on the traditional singer-songwriter style with her thoughtful lyrics and unique point of view that examines what it means to be a woman in today’s world. Joséphine will be hosting an official Ends With Always CD release party at the Living Room at 7pm on Wednesday December 3 to mark the physical release of the EP.
The five tracks on Ends With Always spotlight her playful vocals backed by sweeping folk-pop guitar riffs, tight bass lines and a variety of lush instrumentation. The eponymous lead single captures the lyrical and musical sensibility of the album perfectly, setting a bilingual story of winter love in the big city against a catchy piano line that builds into a melodic mix featuring clarinet, strings and jazzy horns.
The record was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by veteran producer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Umbach (Britney Spears, ‘N Sync, Matt White, Rob Dickinson) at The Maze in Franklin, TN. On her experience creating the album with Umbach, Joséphine says “My producer and I had a great creative freedom and focused on making good, fun music without taking ourselves too seriously or forgetting to show sensitivity and maturity. My songs are always fully based on personal experiences, ideas or emotions and I think that Paul helped me get more out of myself on this album than I ever have before.”
Joséphine Ancelle left her Paris home at the tender age of 17, moving to Montreal in pursuit of her dream—a career in music. After recording a Vibe-Award winning album with the People’s Gospel Choir of Montréal, Josephine moved to New York to where she co-wrote, recorded and independently released her first album, Unfinished Life, in November 2007. That dream was more fully realized when Ancelle’s follow-up EP, The I Love Yous, was released in 2009 to rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic.
Ends With Always is certain to build on the success of its predecessor, which garnered Joséphine airplay on several major European radio channels (Radio Neo, Vallee FM, SR-1 and SR-3), two national film and TV licensing deals in the US, and high-profile gigs at seminal Parisian clubs Le Réservoir and Sentier Des Halles.
Joséphine will kick off a series of shows in Manhattan with the official Ends With Always release party on December 3rd. Additional US dates and a planned European tour will follow in early 2011 (dates TBA).
