12/07 – Philippe Katerine with Francis et ses Peintres @ FIAF
Eccentric, cult French rocker Philippe Katerine, accompanied by the group Francis et ses Peintres, comes to FIAF for his first-ever show in the U.S. Acclaimed as “the undisputed king of off-kilter French pop” by The Guardian (UK), Katerine made his debut in 1991 with a lo-fi album of one and two-minute minimalist songs. In the ‘90s, Katerine rose to become a leading figure on France’s indie pop scene, and gained mainstream success in the past 10 years with his albums regularly making the Top 40 in France. Katerine has also enjoyed success as an actor, notably appearing in Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life, a biopic of French icon Serge Gainsbourg.
In 2011, Katerine partnered with the jazz band Francis et ses Peintres, who will accompany him at FIAF, for a project consisting of 52 cover versions of songs by artists Yannick Noah and Irving Berlin, among others.
Don’t miss this rare chance to see one of France’s most important contemporary musicians live in New York for the very first time!
