Alexandre Desplat Nominated Twice for Soundtrack Oscar

“The prolific French composer Alexandre Desplat has vied for Oscar gold against some imposing names over the course of his career, including John Williams, A.R. Rahman, Thomas Newman and Danny Elfman. This year he faces a formidable new rival: himself.”

So goes the LA Times coverage of Alexandre Desplat, the prolific French film composer who consistently scores the Oscar’s most-awarded films. Read the rest of the LA Times article on Desplat and the other nominees here.

In 2015 Desplat is nominated for Oscars for his scores to both ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ and ‘The Imitation Game’.

This year, besides himself, Desplat also competes against Hans Zimmer for “Interstellar,” Gary Yershon for “Mr. Turner” and Johann Johannsson for “The Theory of Everything.”

These two nominations for Desplat come in a year ripe with French award nominees in the US. If you missed it, check out France Rocks’ coverage of the French Grammy nominees in 2015, following Daft Punk’s 5 Grammy sweep at the 2014 awards.
