Gesaffelstein – 9/10 album review in Mixmag
A Self-Assured Debut from the Next French Superstar

The eagerly awaited debut album by Gesaffelstein , ‘Aleph’ is a journey into the Parisian’s mind, delving into the darkest areas imaginable whilst making good use of his acclaimed production skills. The 14-track LP really demonstrates his scope, from slowed-down, almost dreamscape lullabies to ruthless, pounding techno. ‘Nameless’ is the first example of his less threatening side, but no sooner have you settled yourself in than you’re thrown into the sinister genius of ‘Obsession’. Brace yourself for ‘Hellifornia’: its venomous half-time trap shows why Kanye called upon the Frenchman. The piano-led ‘Wall Of Memories’  is an eerie atmospheric calm before the storm – the storm being the ferocious adrenaline rush of ‘Duel’. ‘Aleph’ is a finely-tuned album and a testament to everything Gesaffelstein has been praised for.Mixmag 9/10
