Born in Paris in 1991, Gabrielle Hartmann is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer. Raised in a musically inclined family geared towards humanitarian work, she grew up in an environment open to the world. She began studying classical piano at the age of eight, later developing a passion for soul and jazz voices like Nina Simone, Otis Redding, and Billie Holiday. At 16, she started writing her first songs with her high school friends.
Her academic journey took her through political science, philosophy, and ethnomusicology, leading her to live in Rio de Janeiro for two years, where she fell in love with the voices of João Gilberto, Caetano Veloso, and Gal Costa. She then pursued studies in London and spent months in South Africa, Portugal, and Guinea.
At 24, she returned to Paris to fully dedicate herself to music, studying jazz at the conservatory. During this period, she met songwriter and producer Jesse Harris (known for his work with Norah Jones, Melody Gardot, and Madeleine Peyroux) during a recording session in New York. This collaboration led to the release of her debut EP in 2022, co-produced and co-written with Harris between Paris and New York. As she started gaining recognition in the Parisian jazz scene, she sold out clubs across the city and opened for artists like Jamie Cullum, Melody Gardot, Mathieu Chedid (-M-), and Ayo.
Gabi Hartmann’s self-titled debut album was released in January 2023 under Sony Masterworks, composed over several years as a musical diary of her life and encounters—a collection of sonic snapshots. It became the year’s best-selling SNEP Jazz/World album in France, earned her the New International Artist award in Japan (Gold Disk Award), garnered over 20 million streams worldwide, and received critical acclaim in both French and Canadian press. She then performed at prestigious festivals such as Les Francofolies de la Rochelle, Nice Jazz Festival, Marciac, Montreal Jazz Festival, and Jazz à Vienne. She also performed for two consecutive years at the Blue Note Tokyo, toured Brazil, and completed two consecutive tours in Canada, where she built a large and loyal Quebecois audience. Gabi has also collaborated with international musicians, including Julian Lage.
Her second album ‘La femme aux yeux de sel’ (2025) was presented to audiences during a triumphant French tour, playing to sold-out venues across the country and culminating in a sold-out show at Le Trianon in Paris, before she returned to the road for new dates in France and Germany and being nominated for a Josephine Award.
In 2026, Gabi Hartmann brings her acclaimed music to the U.S. for her first American tour.
