Angelique Kidjo
Angelique Kidjo is a Grammy award-winning music recording artist deemed “Africa’s premier diva” by Time Magazine. Kidjo’s internationally acclaimed repertoire includes collaborations with various recording artists such as Carlos Santana, Peter Gabriel, Alicia Keys, Josh Groban, Branford Marsalis, Joss Stone, and many more. Carnegie Hall presents her in her headlining debut in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, performing The Sound of the Drum—a musical journey exploring the influence of the drum through rhythms, songs, and dances originating in Africa and continuing on to the Caribbean and America. For this program, Kidjo is joined by three outstanding guest artists: groundbreaking Senegalese singer and percussionist Youssou N’Dour, singer and star of the Buena Vista Social Club Omara Portuondo, and renowned jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves.

Keren Ann
Surrounded by a fascinating mix of musical cultures from an early age, the singer-songwriter-composer-producer Keren Ann grew up listening to everything from French ‘variété’ and American folk to traditional Yiddish music. At 35, with five solo albums, Keren Ann’s name is said in the same breath as those of Norah Jones, Suzanne Vega, Nico and Francoise Hardy, a close friend, and her songs have been played on such television series as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Six Feet Under” and “Big Love” and on the international H&M Spring commercial. She also took part in many internationally acclaimed recordings such as “Chambre avec vue” written for Henri Salvador in 2000 and “The Isis Project” written with Guy Chambers in 2004.

Pink Martini
Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world – crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop –, Thomas Lauderdale founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini in 1994. Their first song “Sympathique”– with the chorus “Je ne veux pas travailler” (”I don‟t want to work”) – became an overnight sensation in France. Pink Martini has twelve musicians, and performs its multilingual repertoire on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, Northern Africa, North America, etc.
Nov 13 – Beacon Theater at 8 pm

Tricky
Tricky’s last album is called “Mixed Race” because being mixed race is the single biggest influence on Tricky’s music. Known as one of the trip-hop genius, Tricky grew up with all this different music, he’s been blessed because no-one can put my music in a box – it’s not black, it’s not white, it’s not female, it’s not male. Now resident in Paris, he seems to have found the way of channelling all his tributary influences into a series of much stronger, more direct grooves than before. Tense, street and urban, “Mixed Race” is like a movie, almost.

Yelle
Yelle began working on and recording their debut album Pop-Up in 2006 after the success of her first song “Je veux te voir”, the just-coarse-enough hit heard around the world and especially heavily on Myspace. She has enjoyed success outside of France despite making songs exclusively in French! She has toured overseas in non-French speaking countries and in particular the United States performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2008. Yelle is a delightful breath of fresh air in the electro scene!
