Largest Music Festival In France Announces 25th Anniversary Celebration in Central Park Via The New York Times

The Avener, Matthieu Chedid, The Celtic Social Club, Krismenn & Alem To Perform at Rumsey Playfield on October 1st

vcny 1Vieilles Charrues, the largest music festival in France, announced via The New York Times a special event for its 25th anniversary, to take place at Rumsey Playfield, in New York. It’s the first time a European festival this size comes to Central Park.

#VCNY16 will take place on October 1st, with a line-up bridging pop, electro, hip hop, and ancient Celtic melodies.

The Avener will bring a classic French electronic touch as the co-headliner of the festival. Matthieu Chedid, aka -M-, a pillar of contemporary French pop-rock music, is also set to take the stage as a headliner. -M- is currently considered one of the biggest pop rock singers in France. His latest album ‘II’ was critically acclaimed and his accompanying tour sold out 3 nights at the Bercy Arena in Paris (16,000 capacity), and 2 nights at London’s KOKO.

Inspired by the Buena Vista Social Club and the New Orleans Social Club, The Celtic Social Club is a fresh take on ancient Celtic melodies from Brittany, Ireland, Scotland, and Asturias. Led by Manu Masko, the band composed of Bretons and Scots musicians, will perform with special guest Roy Harter, the New York-based Emmy award-winning composer, who previously played for Paul Simon. Opening for the festival are Krismenn & Alem, last year’s beat box world champion duo, who sing in Breton.

About Vieilles Charrues Festival:
When it was founded in 1992 in Landeleau, a quiet village in the centre of Brittany, Les Vieilles Charrues resembled a local fair more than a music festival. Over the past seventeen years, Les Vieilles Charrues has grown from a smallscale event to become one of the four top rock festivals in Europe, with over 80 acts and attended by over 278,000 spectators over a four-day weekend.

Every July, enthusiastic crowds come to enjoy both established and up-and-coming artists from all sorts of musical backgrounds and influences in the natural ampitheatre of Kérampuilh. 6,000 volunteers give their time and energy to ensuring that the spirit of the festival lives on. Previous line-ups included amongst others: Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Lou Reed, The Cure, Massive Attack, Ben Harper, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, James Brown, Beck, De La Soul, Motorhead, Pharrell Williams, Lana Del Rey, Major Laser, Disclosure, Rammstein, Elton John, Phoenix, Stromae, Christine and the Queens, Santana, David Guetta, The Prodigy, Madeon, The Chemical Brothers, Lionel Richie, Tom Jones, The Black Keys, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Sting, Justice, and more.
