Phoenix is an alternative rock band from Versailles, France, consisting of Thomas Mars, Deck d’Arcy, Christian Mazzalai and Laurent Brancowitz. The group draws elements from their eclectic ’80s upbringing to arrive at a satisfying blend of rock and synthesizers. Phoenix began as a garage band based out of Mars’ house in the suburbs of Paris. Mazzalai’s older brother Branco joined the band on guitar when his band Darlin’ disbanded in 1995.

It’s been some time since Glassnote band Phoenix have released music. So long, in fact, that major music outlets like Pitchfork and Stereogum are raising speculation of a new album in the works from the indie-rockers after recent changes to the band’s social media profiles. The last time Phoenix released an album was in 2013, with ‘Bankrupt!’. Stay tuned for details!
Alone on Christmas Day Featuring Phoenix with Bill Murray and others (December 2016)
Phoenix release “Alone on Christmas Day”, a cover of a long-lost Beach Boys holiday track from 1979 that was never formally released. Phoenix’s version features a little help from Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, former “Letterman” musical director Paul Shaffer, and New York Dolls’ David Johansen, and appears in the Netflix original holiday special, A Very Murray Christmas, directed by Sofia Coppola. All profits from the song will go to UNICEF.
