Biography

Chicha Libre is a Brooklyn collective made up of French, American, Venezuelan and Mexican musicians whose original blend is a mixture of latin rhythms, surf and psychedelia inspired by Peruvian music from the Amazon.

Chicha Libre has performed around the world – from Buenos Aires to Bogota, Istanbul, Los Angeles, Copenhagen and Madrid – and their music has been featured in a number of film and TV shows including a Simpsons 20th anniversary special in which they were asked to play the Simpsons theme “chicha” style alongside the likes of Red Hot Chili Pepper and ZZ Top. They have also scored a Vaclav Havel play which was performed at Colombiaʼs Miller theater in the authorʼs presence and two Charlie Chaplin films which they performed at NYʼs prestigious Merkin Hall.

Their new album, Canibalismo will be released May 8th by Barbès in North America and Crammed Disc for the rest of the world.
